Founded in 1999 by Ian Munro, an Audiologist and hearing aid designer, and Richard Frankson a Marketing Director from Garwood, the pioneers of In-Ear monitoring, Sensorcom's business model was developed to create in-ear communications and hearing protection products; initially for the entertainment and broadcast industries moving into police and military as demand for products for use in challenging acoustic environments evolved. In 2001 we worked with LIFFE (London International Financial Futures Exchange) and Ericsson to create a custom fitted In-Ear headset capable of working in the extreme noise environment of the open outcry trading pits (over 115dB) where it was imperative that the traders could communicate in absolute clarity.
In 2009 we created the ProGuard brand for the UK market to simplify the process of buying custom fit hearing protection and earphone products for the consumer markets. In particular we wanted to introduce earplugs that attenuate rather than block to keep the user safe from hearing damage but spatially aware so surrounding sounds, dialogue and alerts can be heard. This approach is also important for musicians, concertgoers and clubbers so that they can preserve music quality when audio levels are high. Using our fully equipped earmould laboratory it manufactures individually crafted earplugs and ear fittings that give greater comfort and efficacy than generic types. The laboratory also produces custom-made hearing protection and communications moulds for security and military markets as well as industry, motorsport and gunsports. Sensorcom is BSI accredited and operates a vigorous 100% quality control regime. Performance data is recorded against serial numbers for every active items using calibrated Audio Precision test equipment.
